Easter "Did You Know..."

Early Christians celebrated easter on different days of the week. In 325 AD, the Council of Nicaea issued the Easter Rule which states that Easter shall be celebrated on the first Sunday that occurs after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox.

Easter is mentioned in Acts 12:4, but this is probably a reference to the Passover celebration in Jerusalem.

1 NOW about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
2 And he akilled bJames the brother of John with the sword.
3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of aunleavened bread.)
4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in aprison, and delivered him to four bquaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after cEaster to bring him forth to the people.
5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

(New Testament | Acts 12:1 - 5)

The easter bunny is a collective folk memory of pre-christian spring festival rites in Europe. The early christians incorporated elements of local festivals into the easter tradition and the easter bunny is one such tradition that survives to this day.
