2009-03-28 Laurel recovering from hip replacement

Both Laurel and LaRue had hip replacement surgery. Laurel lost a lot of blood and was anemic and had to stay an extra day in the hospital. This isn't a flattering photo, but she doesn't look at the blog so she'll never see it. We took her some soup which I am sure will aid in her recovery.

2009-03-28 At the football games

Both Thomas and Jonathan play spring football with games at the indoor football facility at the U of U. They play hard, and on the artificial turf it seems that there are more injuries. They both enjoy playing and their parents are great to get them to practices and games all over the place.

2009-03-27 Youth Conference at Aspen Grove

We spent Friday and Saturday At Aspen Grove (up the road from Sundance ski resort) with the YM and YW in our ward. The bishop did a little role playing with the group, and we played some fun games. On Saturday we snowshoed or cross country skied. It was kind of like Frost Valley (but I never went to Frost Valley so I have nothing to compare).

2009-03-26 Buying a Post Office in Harper, Texas

We're buying this post office in Harper, Texas. As a reminder, Harper is about 60 miles north of San Antonio and about 60 miles west of Austin. When I'm about to turn 80 years old we will own the building and collect about $60,000 per year in rent. This reminds me of the joke about Rip Van Winkle who falls asleep for 20 years when he awakes he realizes that he must be rich, but he finds out that a bus token costs $60,000.

2009-03-21 Michelle runs the Canyonlands Half Marathon in Moab

Michelle is finishing 22nd in her age group and 95th overall among women with a time of 1:43. Good job Michelle!

We enjoyed a couple of days with the Egberts in Moab. Here we are hiking to Sand Dune Arch.

2009-03-21 Justin turns '3'

We had a birthday party for Justin while we were in Moab. Justin is getting big, and we enjoyed talking to him and listening to him converse.

As a three year old he is allowed to eat his spaghetti one strand at a time.

2009-03-19 Thomas sings in the concert choir

Thomas sings bass in the 8th grade concert choir at Clayton Middle School. They sang a number of songs with great enthusiasm.

2009-03-14 Thomas's ward team in runner-up in region

Thomas's ward team lost in the regional final. Thomas is a solid forward, boxing out and getting offensive and defensive rebounds, and getting a number of second chance baskets. The other team got too many fast break baskets.

The runner-up team got these white shirts as reward.

2009-03-13 New office furniture

We bought new office furniture. Moving this giant piece into our office about killed Shawn Seager and myself. It is Friday the 13th afterall.

We couldn't figure out how to turn on the lights in the unit until we read a tag hanging on a hinge that said 'Touch Me!' When you tap the hinge the lights turn on or off.

2009-03-11 The YM visit Ardell's car collection

The teacher and priest age boys and their leaders went to Ardell Brown's car collection. Ardell was a gracious host. I was disappointed that we didn't have more YM.

Wouldn't Grandma look great driving this Jag with her blonde hair flowing in the wind?

2009-03-07 Abby plays basketball

Abby enjoyed playing basketball. She is tall, athletic and graceful, and she has plenty of room to improve her skills. We enjoyed watching her play.

2009-03-02 Draper Temple Open House

We worked as ushers at the Draper Temple open house. Paula stood by the recommend desk, and I opened the front door for people to exit. (The tour went through the temple in reverse with visitors exiting the front door.) It was fun to see how many families came to show their children the temple.

2009-03-02 Abby performs in Cinderella

Abby played a townsperson in the ensemble for Cinderella. This was about the best elementary school play I have seen with great sets and costumes and well rehearsed performers. Abby directed us to sit on the right side of the auditorium close to the front where, in one scene, she came out into the audience and danced right by us. Sarah really enjoyed the play despite not feeling well. 'My sick' she said.
