2010-07-31 Shakespeare Festival

We drove to Cedar City to see five plays (in order of my preference) - Merchant of Venice, Much Ado About Nothing, Great Expectations, 39 Steps, and lastly, Pride and Prejudice. We had the company of Laurel and Kim Young, Greg and Suzanne Seal (from our ward), Carter and Kathy Jones, and Don and Leslie Oldham. We have done this in July for the past 4 years, and we plan to continue the tradition, but with perhaps one or two fewer plays. The photo is Paula with Juliet. Next year Romeo and Juliet is on the schedule.

2010-07-05 Paul Sullivan died

Paul was my sister Janet's husband. They visited us in NYC and Montreal.

Paul Edward Sullivan 1937 ~ 2010 Paul Edward Sullivan passed away peacefully on July 5, 2010 at home in Salt Lake City after an extended illness. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on August 1, 1937, Paul believed in a life of knowledge and learning. His quest was education. He held five degrees: Chemical Engineering, Northeastern University; Law, George Washington Law School; MBA, Harvard University; History, University of Utah; Anthropology, University of Utah. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in both University of Utah degrees. Paul began his career at Sheaffer Pen. He held positions at Xerox, Baxter Laboratories and International Minerals & Chemicals. His professional posts took him throughout the world representing a variety of companies and products. In 1981 Paul formed a partnership and bought Trojan Explosives, headquartered in Spanish Fork, Utah. He made his home in Salt Lake City where his hospitality to friends and neighbors became legendary. In 1986, Paul sold his interests in Trojan Explosives and retired to pursue his avid interests in travel, art, education, golf, family and friends. Paul was amazingly conversant in sports, politics, cooking, religion, history, science, law and just about any other subject one could name. He was also an extremely patient listener and loyal friend to many, many people who loved him and cherished his friendship. His smiling blue eyes and calm, self-assured, respectful manner made everyone feel at ease in his presence. He was a generous man and a true gentleman. Paul is survived by his wife, Janet Owen; sons Mark Sullivan, New York, Evan Sullivan, Colorado and his children Sidney and Harry, Salt Lake; stepdaughter Lisa Rollins and her son Jesse, Salt Lake; stepson Jason (Noelle) Rollins and their children Tabitha and Robert, Seattle; and two brothers; Robert and Phillip, Boston. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Teddy. A wake to celebrate Paul Edward Sullivan's extraordinary life will be held at Paul and Janet's home at 238 North Sandrun Dr., SLC, from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, July 17th, 2010. In his honor, "Buy a friend a drink and make a toast to Paul!" Condolences may be expressed at www.larkincares.com
